The 2001 German Musical Instrument Prize
In 2000 the master craftsman decided to submit a B flat/F tenor
trombone in the competition for the German Musical Instrument Prize.
Shortly before the end of the year, the company received a note
that this instrument had been awarded the prize for 2001.
The medal and certificate were presented at the 2001 Music Fair
at Frankfurt by Secretary of State Siegmar Moosdorf at the then
German Ministry of the Economy and Technology.
The winning instrument is a quart trombone - a beginner's model
conceived for pupils, students and lay musicians.
It is easy to play, has outstanding intonation and the sound is what
you might call American. The workmanship on the B flat/F tenor
trombone is very good and solid and the excellent performance/price
ratio could be another reason why someone decides to buy one
of these instruments.
This is one way for musicians to get to know Voigt trombone
instruments and as their demands increase, they can switch to
instruments of a higher quality. All the parameters, such as tone,
technical/physical properties, how easy it is to play, workmanship
etc were assessed anonymously by an independent jury and reliable
technical equipment.
But master musician Jürgen Voigt and his team are not about to rest
on their laurels. He only needs to walk through his workshops, step
outside the company and breathe in the good Vogtland air, hold
interesting discussions with his customers, friends, acquaintances
and his creative family and the flexible master musician has already
gained fresh inspiration for new technical ideas, improvements and
new instruments.
More than this, he is concerned about the future of instrument
making and this is hard to organise without close interaction
between those who play the instruments and those who make them.
Getting the two sides together leads to fresh ideas, which are then
jointly developed.
